My Viking Oven is Acting Like a Sleeping Dragon! 5 Reasons It Won’t Heat Up

Imagine this: You’re all set to bake some word class cupcakes or brownies 🙂 You preheat your typically awesome Viking oven, the little light turns on, and you wait… and wait… and wait. But instead of that warm, toasty feeling, you get… nothing. Zilch. Nada. Your oven is colder than a polar bear’s toenails!

Don’t panic! Before you start blaming mischievous kitchen gnomes, let’s look at some real reasons why your Viking oven might be on strike. Here are five common culprits:

5 Reasons Viking Oven Won’t Heat Up

1. The Power Cord is Snoozing: Sometimes the simplest things are the sneakiest! Make sure your oven is actually plugged in. I know, I know, it sounds obvious, but it happens! Maybe someone (we won’t name names!) accidentally bumped the plug while reaching for that extra-large bag of Long Island potato chips. Give it a wiggle and make sure it’s snug in the wall.

2. The Circuit Breaker Took a Trip: Think of your circuit breaker like a tiny bodyguard for your appliances. If it senses too much power going to the oven, it might trip the breaker to protect things. It may also trip and it simply needs to be reset. Head over to your breaker box (usually in the basement, garage or a utility closet) and see if the switch for your oven has tripped. If it has, flip it back on. If it trips again right away, that’s a sign of a bigger problem.

3. The Igniter is Being a Drama Queen (Gas Ovens): If you have a gas Viking oven, it uses an igniter to light the gas. This little part gets super hot and makes the flame happen. But sometimes, igniters get old and decide they don’t want to work anymore. If you turn on your oven and it won’t heat, a faulty igniter is a very likely cause. (Not always, but quite often the case with a Gas oven)

4. The Heating Element is Taking a Break (Electric Ovens): Electric Viking ovens use heating elements to get hot. These often look like big metal coils at the bottom of your oven, but sometimes are hidden behind a panel. Over time, these elements may burn out, kind of like a light bulb. If one of your elements isn’t working when the oven is on, it might need to be replaced.

5. The Temperature Sensor is Confused: Your oven has a temperature sensor that tells it how hot it is inside. If this sensor isn’t working right, it might be sending the wrong information to the oven’s brain (computer). This could make the oven think it’s already hot enough when it’s not. It’s like your oven has a bad case of the “I’m hot, no I’m not!” blues.
