

Two weeks…That’s all I had. Fourteen days separating me from the dinner party that was planned for months. Invitations were sent, menus were crafted, and the guest list was finalized. Everything was set for a memorable evening. Then, the unthinkable happened —- My oven quit…….
It started subtly. The temperature seemed off, we made a roast and it took way too long…..The next day we tried baking some cookies. After about 30 minutes in pre-heat and adjusting the settings, we soon realized the oven was hardly working. About 10 minutes later, with a disconcerting pop and a wisp of smoke, the oven went completely cold. Panic set in. How could I host a dinner party without a working oven? Visions of takeout containers and lukewarm entrees filled my mind. While I do love some good takeout, the evening I had envisioned was quickly crumbling into a chaotic mess.
Doubt began to creep in. Should we cancel? Reschedule? Have the food catered and hope for the best? The thought of disappointing my guests, after all the anticipation, was unbearable. I knew I had to find a solution, and fast. That’s when we reached out to East Appliance, our local oven repair company. Our neighbors recently mentioned they had a good experience with them after their double wall oven went out. With a mix of hope and desperation, we looked up their number online and made the call.
The person who answered was friendly and reassuring. After explaining the predicament, emphasizing the urgency of the situation, we scheduled a technician to come out the very next day. I was relieved, but still anxious. What if they couldn’t fix it? What if the repair was too expensive? What if…?
The technician arrived right on schedule the following morning. After a thorough inspection, he quickly identified the problem: the heating element was officially broken. He had the replacement part in his van and got to work immediately. I watched, fascinated, as he disassembled the various parts and laid them out on a drop cloth on the floor. About an hour or so later, it was working perfectly. The familiar hum of a functioning oven was like sweet music to my ears. (Being a dog and all, my hearing is somewhat of a superpower)
The relief was overwhelming. Not only was my oven fixed, but the oven repair guy also gave us some helpful tips on oven maintenance, which I really appreciated. It was clear they knew what they were doing. The oven repair aficionado even took the time to rub my belly while he was waiting for the oven to heat up.
With my oven back in action, my confidence returned and so did the wag in my tail. The dinner party planning resumed with renewed vigor. I was even able to test the oven with a practice run of the world’s tastiest roasted chicken. (it turned out perfectly golden brown and juicy) The two weeks flew by, and it was a party to remember.
